NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — A suspect arrested after a six-hour standoff Thursday in National City has been identified, authorities said.
Chris Alexander Hernandez, 22, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder at the San Diego Central Jail, Lt. Antonio Ybarra with the National City Police Department said in a news release.
The suspect was initially linked to a stabbing on the morning of March 30 in National City. Police say an 83-year-old woman was out for a walk when she was stabbed in the neck with a knife by an unidentified suspect. DNA evidence on the knife found at the scene helped detectives later in the year determine the suspect was Hernandez.
On Thursday afternoon, Hernandez was located at 941 East 7th St. in National City. The suspect barricaded himself inside the home, refusing to comply with officers for several hours.
Hernandez surrendered to law enforcement when the SWAT team executed an arrest warrant during the evening hours.
