SAN DIEGO — The wet weather is on the way, and coastal cities still reeling from the last storms, are preparing for another round of rain and surf.
Oceanside Lifeguard Lt. Tyler Berry says they will be staffed 24 hours a day through the storm.
“Our piers, jetties, rip currents get more dangerous any time there is high surf. Our harbor mouths get extremely dangerous, but we have our marine safety unit that will be in service,” Berry said.
Previous storms have washed most of the sand that used to buffer the waves from homes and the strand.
Locals say they’ve seen how destructive heavy surf can be.
“You can see the detritus coming right up, from the small rocks to the larger rocks, it’s a wondersome time that any of those houses on the left side of the strand have windows,” Oceanside resident Victor Ribis said.
Other locals are worried about business emergencies hitting this weekend.
And it’s not just the coast that will be under pressure.
“We’ll have a swift water team that will be staffed for any inland water rescues that should come up if the rain is more than expected,” Berry said.
