SAN DIEGO — San Diego Fire-Rescue crews are working to rescue five people from a flooded area in the South Bay.
Authorities were alerted that the group was trapped on an embankment under the bridge between Camino de la Plaza and Clearwater Way in San Ysidro at 8:11 a.m.
A total of seven SDFD personnel were dispatched to the rescue, including a swift water rescue team. San Diego police officers are also on scene.
As of 9 a.m., SDFD says four people have been extricated from the embankment and are being evaluated for any injuries. Crews are working to rescue the remaining individual.
No additional details about the rescue were immediately available.
This comes as a storm continues to batter San Diego County with heavy rainfall, prompting the National Weather Service to issue several flood advisories spanning nearly the entire region. This includes a Flash Flood Warning in North County that will remain in place until 11:30 a.m.
As of 4 a.m. Monday, most parts of the county have received roughly an inch of rain over the last two days, according to NWS. Most parts of the county are likely to receive anywhere from another 0.7 inches to 1.5 inches through the evening.
The heaviest downpour with this storm system is expected to occur between mid-morning and the afternoon. During this time, isolated thunderstorms may also be possible.
