EL CAJON, Calif. — A woman was arrested on suspicion of stealing from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in El Cajon Thursday, authorities said. Drugs were also found during the bust.
While pushing her young child around the store in a stroller, 29-year-old Tytiana Johnson is accused of removing anti-theft sensors on about $975 worth of merchandise, explained the El Cajon Police Department (ECPD).
Police said the mother then left the store without paying for the items. Officers received a call reporting the theft around 8:15 p.m. and responded to the area, locating Johnson nearby. She was arrested at that point on grand theft charges.
During the investigation, ECPD said drugs were located in the stroller within arm’s reach of the child, who was taken into protective custody shortly thereafter.
Police records indicate that Johnson has an extensive arrest history, including various theft and drug related offenses.
“The El Cajon Police Department will use every resource available to hold criminals who commit these types of thefts accountable,” said ECPD Chief Mike Moulton. “Criminal acts will not be tolerated and will have consequences for those who commit them.”
Anyone with additional information about these crimes are encouraged to contact ECPD at 619-579-3311 or Crime Stoppers at www.sdcrimestoppers.org.
