SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with a deadly shooting in Lakeside earlier this week, authorities said.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Lakeside patrol deputies were dispatched to the 9700 block of Cactus Street at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.
A neighbor, who did not what to be identified, told FOX 5 they pulled into their apartment complex and witnessed a group of four young men acting strange. Minutes later, the resident said a gunshot was heard.
Arriving deputies found a man lying in the street and suffering from a gunshot wound, SDSO explained. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim — identified as 26-year-old Michael Anthony Johnson — was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Thursday, Sheriff’s homicide investigators arrested 26-year-old Anthony Jose Gonzales on suspicion of murder in relation to this case. He was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
