RAMONA, Calif. — Two people, including a 13-year-old boy, were killed Thursday evening during a crash in Ramona, authorities said.
According to California Highway Patrol, a 21-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion TC westbound on San Vicente Road, east of Wildcat Canyon Road, around 4:45 p.m. Her rate of speed is unknown.
At that same time, CHP said a 61-year-old woman driving a 2018 Dodge Durango eastbound on San Vicente Road was approaching the Toyota.
It was then reported by authorities that the driver of the Toyota drove over the painted double yellow lines into the eastbound lane of San Vicente Road, causing the front of the Dodge to strike the right passenger door of the Toyota.
The driver of the Toyota and her front seat passenger, a 13-year-old boy, were both pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. The driver of the Dodge was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
All of the parties involved were confirmed to be residents of Ramona.
At the time of the crash, CHP said the roadway was wet from rain. It’s unknown at this point in their investigation why the Toyota crossed into the opposing lane.
