SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Law enforcement is stepping up patrols in San Diego County on Super Bowl Sunday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office is spreading awareness by urging people not to get behind the wheel if they are impaired before, during, or after the game.
SDSO says to expect increased patrols across the county from Sunday at 3 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday.
On Super Bowl Sunday last year, deputies arrested 33 people for impaired driving in San Diego County. For the entire year of 2023, SDSO reports 6,671 people were arrested for impaired driving by law enforcement agencies throughout the county.
Deputies say you can get home safely by planning your ride ahead of the game, designate a sober driver, use a taxi, ride sharing service, call a friend or family member or use public transportation.
California Highway Patrol is also increasing its presence on highways across the state on game day.
With the San Francisco 49ers playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday, San Francisco Police, Caltrans and California Highway Patrol will be closing these highway off-ramps in San Francisco Sunday night following the game, according to our sister station KRON.

The teams last faced off four years ago, when Kansas City became champions for the first time in 50 years. The last time San Francisco won was in 1995 against the San Diego Chargers.
