SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A suspected prowler was arrested in the College Area Wednesday after being located by Air Borne Law Enforcement (ABLE), authorities said.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the suspect — identified as Ilmer Cortez-Diaz — was allegedly spotted in the corner of someone’s backyard on Adobe Drive around 8:13 p.m.
The resident reported the incident to authorities, informing SDPD that this was the third time a prowler was seen at her home in the last week.
ABLE arrived to the area within two minutes and located the suspect, who was seen jumping over fences in several backyards in an attempt to evade officers, SDPD explained. ABLE followed Cortez-Diaz until he was detained by SDSU officers in the canyon behind East Falls View Drive.
The victim provided Ring camera evidence to police, showing footage from two days prior. Police said the man seen in the video matched the suspect’s description.
As explained by authorities, Cortez-Diaz was seen hiding in a portion of the victim’s backyard which provided concealment. He reportedly had a vantagepoint to look through the bedroom window and sliding glass door of the victim’s home.
Cortez-Diaz was arrested on suspicion of peeping and obstructing/resisting a peace officer, SDPD confirmed.
