First-time parents, Kelsey and Alan Tran of Rancho Penasquitos, welcomed their son, Maverick Jesse, on a unique date — Feb. 29 — which only appears on the calendar approximately every four years.
Maverick happens to share his special birthdate with his Aunt Jesi, who inspired his middle name.
The hospital said Maverick weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and is 19.5 inches long. (See photos shared by Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center above).
Those born on Feb. 29, or leap day, typically celebrate their birthdays on Feb. 28 or March 1. Leap day birthdays are so rare that the chance of being born on leap day is roughly one in 1,460.
