OTAY MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — More than 200 packages of methamphetamine were found hidden inside foam pedestals Thursday at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility, according to a release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
On Thursday around 8:11 a.m., CBP officers approached a 39-year-old man driving a 2003 van carrying what appeared to be foam pedestals.
After scanning the vehicle, officers observed irregularities and a K-9 enforcement team was alerted to the presence of narcotics.
CBP officers said upon further examination, they found 218 packages containing methamphetamine hidden inside seven hollowed-out foam pedestals.
The packages, which weighed a total of 457 pounds, had an estimated street value of $730,800.
The driver was detained and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. The van and packages of methamphetamine have been seized by CBP officers.
This seizure is part of Operation Apollo, a joint regional operation between federal, state and local agencies.
