SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Six San Diego breweries brought home gold medals for their beers Wednesday in the fourth annual Brewers Cup of California.
According to Brewers Cup of California, a gold medal winning beer is “a world-class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma, and appearance.”
Pizza Port Brewing Company won four gold medals and two silver medals.
Three of its first-place awards were for beers at its Ocean Beach location and one at the Carlsbad location.
TapRoom Beer Company in North Park ranked second among locals with three silver medals and one bronze.
Together, breweries from San Diego won a total of 26 medals including 12 silver and five bronze.

- Black Plague Brewing (Oceanside) – Medusa for “Specialty Stout” category
- Burgeon Beer Company (Carlsbad) – Clever Kiwi for “Session Beer”
- Kilowatt Brewing Company (Kearny Mesa) – Brew for Ukraine for “Imperial Stout”
- Pizza Port (Carlsbad) – Apollyon for “Belgian Pale Strong/Tripel”
- Pizza Port (Ocean Beach) – Guillaume for “Belgian Session/Other Belgian Ale”
- Pizza Port (Ocean Beach) – Paloma Sour for “Beliner Weisse”
- Pizza Port (Ocean Beach) – OB La Di OB La Da for “Mild Ale”
- Smoking Cannon Brewery (Ramona) – Joslyn for “Chocolate Beer”
- The Julian Beer Co. – Juniper Flats for “Historical Beer”
This year’s competition included more than 1,300 entries from nearly 200 participating breweries. A list of all winners can be found on the Brewers Cup of California website.
