SAN DIEGO — The City of San Diego is warning of possible towing of vehicles in storm-damaged areas as more rainfall is expected later this week.
No parking signs will be posted throughout the week so crews can complete street repairs, clean debris removal and other necessities, according to the city. Once the “no parking” signs are posted, vehicles are at risk of being towed if they are not moved in 24 hours.
The impacted areas include:
- 3700 Beta Street
- 3700 – 3800 Acacia Street
- 3800 Delta Street
- 1500 – 1900 S. 39th Street
- 3800 Birch Street
- 3900 Cottonwood Street
- 2000 – 2100 Osborn Street
- 1900 Woden Street
- 500 – 700 S. 42nd Street
- 2100 Yama Street
Fees will be waived for flood-related impounds in the designated zones for up to 30 days, per the city. Registered owners should contact SDPD tow administration at 858-495-7830.
How the city will contact car owners
- City personnel will go door to door in the designated zones to notify community members of the work.
- Officers will first complete a records check on the vehicle. The officer will attempt to contact the owner of the vehicle to gain compliance on moving the vehicle if no other laws are being broken that prevent the officer from releasing the vehicle.
- The officer will then impound the vehicle under applicable law if the registered owner cannot move the vehicle in a reasonable amount of time.
If a vehicle is creating an immediate hazard on a roadway or on public property, the vehicle will have to be impounded, according to the city. Those hazardous situations include a vehicle stuck in a storm channel inhibiting normal operation of that channel, vehicles on the street stacked on top of each other and vehicles blocking lanes of traffic.
Non-hazard vehicle towing will occur after a 24-hour advance notice is posted on the street.
